Vx Technology
Vx Multiphase Flow Measurement Technology

Multiphase flow is complex. Since the dawn of diagnostic well test analyses, researchers have toiled with the challenges of making reliable flow measurements in the unpredictable conditions of oil and gas production. Vx technology is based on simple fundamental physical principles, which is why it’s able to make reliable flow measurements across varied applications and flow conditions. Vx technology offers the industry its first, true step-change in flow rate measurement technique and quality.

In the Vx measurement, the total mass or volumetric flow rate is determined in a Venturi by the well-understood Bernoulli equation. Using Compton and photoelectric gamma measurements acquired at exceptionally high frequencies and low energy levels, the fluid mixture density, gas-liquid ratio and water-liquid ratio are determined. From these the gas, oil, and water flow rates are computed. Vx performance has been quantified in flow loop tests as low as within 2% to 2 ½% for both oil flows and gas flows, without meter calibrations.

Vx technology is available to the industry in two basic product and service offerings: PhaseWatcher products for subsea and permanent surface installations, and PhaseTester services for mobile well testing.
